In Scandinavian homes, the ceiling light is often the last one switched on. Rooms are lit from lower down instead, in small pools of warm light that make a space feel calm and inviting.
Light at different heights
Combine a pendant or table lamp with candles on a sideboard or windowsill. Light at several heights softens shadows and draws the eye gently around the room.
Group your candle holders
Two or three candle holders of varying heights look more natural than one on its own. Keep them together on a tray or a shelf.
A quiet ritual
Lighting the candles as the day ends is a small signal to slow down. Simply remember never to leave a burning candle unattended.
